Finish Color Options- Which One Should You Choose?
ScalerFab is the ONLY after-market trail armor company that allows you to select the options you want to build the trail armor for your rig! One of many options we offer is finish color. All of our trail armor comes in one of three finishes: Raw Steel (unpainted), Flat Black, or Rustoleum Truck Bed Coating. All of our color finish options are coated with 3 coats to make it as chip-resistant, as possible. However, these provide a superficial coating and will scratch or chip under normal use. Which one is best for you? Read below for a break down of each option and why we love it!
Raw Steel (unpainted):
A raw steel finish is perfect as a base to coat the bumper with your own color, cerakote or powdercoat. It's also great if you want a more weathered look, as it will naturally oxidize over time for a rusty appearance. ScalerFab's Raw Steel finish is brushed, but you can also request non-brushed, like in the pic below:
Flat Black:
The Flat Black finish is a great option if you don't like a shiny finish. It also matches very well with the black plastic stock cages, like on the Axial Bomber, or the roll bars for the Element RC. It's our favorite of the painted options because it does not chip as easily as the Rustoleum Truck Bed. However, it also does not touch up as easily, either given the smooth, flat texture.
Rustoleum Truck Bed Coating:
The 3rd option for finish color is Rustoleum Truck Bed Coating. As with any of the options, it is a superficial finish and will scratch and chip. This is a great option if you want to be able to easily recoat or touch up any chips that happen over time. It can be purchased at any Home Depot or Lowe's. It has a shiny, textured finish.
