There are endless ways of using your winch to get you out of a situation.  From wrapping around a tree or rock, to "doubling" your line pull using a snatch block. Each situation has a preferred method. Regardless, a land anchor will help in 99% of them,  especially a ScalerFab Hybrid land anchor. But practice makes perfect. I try to put myself in awkward positions to get through an obstacle or get my rig right side up. It's better to be prepared.
